According to the latest forecasts from the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM), Turkey has entered the influence of a heatwave originating from Africa and the Persian Gulf. Hot and stifling weather is expected to intensify across the country in the coming days.
Following the decrease in the strong winds that affected Istanbul last week, temperatures and humidity have begun to rise again. It is estimated that air temperatures in the city will reach 34 degrees Celsius by Tuesday, and the perceived temperature will increase further due to high humidity.
According to the forecasts, the nighttime hours in Istanbul are particularly noteworthy. Humidity levels across the city are expected to rise to 91 percent between 03:00 and 06:00. It is stated that this situation may increase the stifling weather throughout the night.
Temperatures across the country are projected to rise approximately 5 degrees above seasonal norms. Thermometers are expected to exceed 42 degrees in the Southeastern Anatolia Region, while extreme heat is expected to intensify in the Aegean region. In Aydın, the temperature is estimated to reach up to 45 degrees on Sunday.
