It has been 12 days since 21-year-old Van Yüzüncü Yıl University (YYÜ) student Rojin Kabaiş went missing. While there has been no news from the university student, who did not return after leaving her dormitory in Van, search efforts are continuing both on land and in Lake Van.
STATEMENT FROM THE VAN GOVERNOR
Van Governor Ozan Balcı, who visited the ongoing search operations at the scene, made statements to the press.
Stating that Rojin Kabaiş arrived at the Van Yüzüncü Yıl University dormitory with her father on September 25 to study, Governor Balcı said:
“Rojin checked in on September 25. She stayed on September 25 and 26. She left on the evening of Friday, September 27. That is, 3 days after arriving, her mobile phone and headphones were found while she was walking on this beach. Dormitory officials were notified around 12:00 PM.
From there, a missing person report was filed with the police department. Since that day, we have been working intensively with our police department, gendarmerie, coast guard, and the university to search for and find our daughter by evaluating all available traces, signs, and evidence.
We are not only searching on the beach. Her identification details have been provided to all 81 provincial police departments and gendarmerie commands, as well as within the campus and surrounding villages."
Stating that the searches are concentrated on the shore of Lake Van, where Rojin was last seen on camera, Governor Balcı said, “Since her mobile phone and headphones were found here, we are working intensively to search for and find her together with our police and gendarmerie units, our coast guard unit, AFAD, and the university.
We are evaluating all the traces, findings, signs, and evidence we have very meticulously. Our helicopters are constantly scanning. Our security boats are working intensively in case she went missing in the lake. We brought a sonar device from Çanakkale to conduct deeper scans.
It is not possible to say anything definitive. Our divers are working. All our cameras in the city are being examined. I hope we will be reunited with our daughter as soon as possible,” he said.
“OUR SEARCH EFFORTS FOR ROJIN ARE CONTINUING IN 81 PROVINCES”
Emphasizing that search efforts are being carried out everywhere, Governor Balcı concluded his words as follows:
“We are searching for Rojin everywhere. We are searching not only in the lake but everywhere. In fact, her identification details have already been provided to the police departments and gendarmerie commands of all 81 provinces, not just in Van.
We are evaluating all the traces, findings, signs, and everything that could be relevant. Other than that, one should not give credence to rumors. Our goal is to find her as soon as possible.
All our units are trying to find this daughter of ours. We are using all the resources of our state to find our daughter. I hope we will be reunited soon."
