Cumali, the older of two children of Karanfil and İbrahim Timi (28), a couple working as agricultural laborers in the district's Bahçe neighborhood, has not been heard from since he left their tent to play with a friend on the morning of April 12. When the family and other workers could not find the child during their search, they notified the gendarmerie. Upon the report, gendarmerie and AFAD teams were dispatched to the area. The teams launched a search operation using drones and a tracking dog.
In the operation involving approximately 200 personnel, Gendarmerie Underwater Search and Rescue (SAK) teams also searched for Cumali in the irrigation canal but found no trace other than one of his slippers.
While no findings were encountered during the search conducted until late at night, the teams' search efforts resumed in the early hours of the morning. It was reported that the teams have intensified their search at the point where the irrigation canal flows into the Mediterranean Sea.
