The Northern Lights were visible to the naked eye on Sunday night (November 5) both in Turkey and across the world. These lights, which illuminated the sky in some parts of southern England, were also seen in Turkey in the Ünye district of Ordu, the Özalp district of Van, and on Marmara Island in Balıkesir.
The aurora borealis, which emits green and red light, has been part of our lives for thousands of years. However, because it does not appear very often, we can say that it is rarely seen. On the other hand, it was reported that the Northern Lights occur during geomagnetic storms.

According to The Guardian, such lights are usually seen most often near the Earth's magnetic north and south poles, where they are called the aurora australis. They are formed by the interaction of particles from the sun, known as solar wind. Furthermore, these particles, which can travel millions of miles, usually appear in the Earth's polar regions.
In addition, depending on the gas molecule and atmosphere the Northern Lights collide with, different amounts of energy are released at different wavelengths of light. While oxygen produces green light, it also causes the sky to glow red.
