Numan Kurtulmuş speaks out on new constitution and general amnesty! 'It is a debt Turkey owes to itself'

Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş made statements regarding the current agenda following the approval in Parliament of the framework law prepared as part of the second resolution process.

Evaluating the adoption of the Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration, which consists of 12 articles, with 467 votes, Kurtulmuş said, "This is the reflection of the nation's support for a Turkey without terrorism in politics. The entire society has embraced this atmosphere of peace and well-being. This is its reflection in politics."

"NO DEBATE ON THE FUNDAMENTAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STATE HAS EMERGED"

Kurtulmuş stated that no debate regarding the fundamental characteristics of the state occurred throughout the process.

"In none of the reporting processes has a debate regarding the fundamental characteristics of the state been brought to the agenda. We have tried to create a balance in a way that our martyrs, our veterans, and the collective conscience of the vast majority will accept. It has been carried out with a common determination where national sensitivity and the entire state structure could be protected. That is why it provided such great support. When the Turkey model we have put forward is completed, it will be an example to the whole world and will be taught as a course in faculties. As a country with aspirations in such a difficult geography, Turkey is obliged to fortify its inner fortress. This process began this way. I see that the report opened the door, and the law, which was accepted with a large number of votes, has opened the door completely. This path is the path of unity and brotherhood."

"POLITICS SHOULD NOT BE CONDUCTED WITH THE HABITS OF THE OLD ERA"

Kurtulmuş said that political language must also change according to the conditions of the new era.

"The era of talking about politics through the habits of the old period must now be left behind. I think a language based on hostility or opposition should be abandoned. Everyone must speak with a language of peace and brotherhood, appropriate to the sensitivity of the new era. Politics conducted according to previous rote memorization will have no response from now on. Everyone needs to establish a discourse and develop politics that encompasses everyone and speaks to everyone, not just in their own echo chambers, but in the squares and streets of the city."

"WE MUST VALUE SUCH A GREAT ENVIRONMENT OF ALLIANCE"

In his assessment regarding the process for a Turkey without terrorism, Kurtulmuş stated that a broad ground for consensus has been formed in political and intellectual terms.

"For the first time in Turkey, such a large environment of alliance has been formed politically and intellectually. We must value this."

"THE FRAMEWORK LAW IS NOT A GENERAL AMNESTY"

Kurtulmuş also made statements regarding the content of the adopted framework law.

"There is not a single sentence that will disrupt our national sovereignty, our unity, our integrity, our nation-state, or our unitary structure. This is not a general amnesty. Decisions will be made by the Board regarding each file individually, and implementation will take place within the framework of the decisions made by the Board. What is important is to ensure an intellectual and political maturity in this country where no Kurdish youth will ever say again, 'I need to go to the mountains,' and to ensure integration."

"A NEW CONSTITUTION IS A DEBT TURKEY OWES TO ITSELF"

Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş also shared his views on the new constitution debates.

"Drafting a new constitution is a debt Turkey owes to itself. This is a political responsibility; it is politics' responsibility to society. I think the political climate has now matured and that Turkey is capable of drafting a new, civilian constitution. This picture is a picture that will encourage such behavior."

"THIS IS WHAT THE 467 VOTES MEAN TO ME"

Kurtulmuş evaluated the adoption of the law by comparing it to the conflict-ridden political environment of the past.

"The winners of the old era were the imperialists with dirty hands and bags full of blood. We will break this game. This is what the 467 votes mean to me. Turkey has demonstrated this will. (The framework law) May our nation be at ease. A law prepared with such great meticulousness and accepted with such a great alliance will never harm our national interests."
