Numan Kurtulmuş to visit Azerbaijan

Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM) Numan Kurtulmuş will attend the 14th APA General Assembly, which will be hosted by the National Assembly of Azerbaijan in the capital, Baku, under the theme "Promoting Regional Cooperation for Sustainable Development in Asia."

Kurtulmuş, who will deliver a speech at the APA General Assembly, will hand over the term presidency, which Türkiye has held since 2017, to Azerbaijan.

Within the scope of the APA General Assembly, Kurtulmuş will hold bilateral meetings with Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova and his counterparts from participating countries.

CONGRATULATORY VISIT TO ALIYEV

During his visit to Azerbaijan, TBMM Speaker Kurtulmuş is also scheduled to meet with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, who was re-elected in the elections held on February 7.

During Kurtulmuş's visit to Azerbaijan, it is expected that, in addition to bilateral relations, Israel's attacks on Gaza and Palestinian territories, as well as current global and regional issues, will be discussed.

The TBMM has been serving as the APA Term President since the 10th General Assembly, which it hosted in November 2017.

It was decided that Azerbaijan would take over the 2024-2025 APA Term Presidency at the Executive Council Meeting held in Antalya on November 26-29, 2023, hosted by the TBMM.

Türkiye will hand over the term presidency to Azerbaijan at the 14th APA General Assembly, which will be held in the capital, Baku, from February 20-24, hosted by the National Assembly of Azerbaijan.

At the General Assembly, committee meetings will also be held, and several draft resolutions will be discussed.

The 43 parliaments of countries that are members of the APA, which Türkiye joined in 2000, carry out their work with the aim of increasing cooperation in peace, stability, economic issues, and social and cultural fields in their respective regions, and bringing parliamentary-level solutions to regional problems.

While 14 national parliaments and 15 international organizations hold observer status in the APA, the "Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development," "Standing Committee on Political Affairs," "Standing Committee on Budget and Planning," and "Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs" continue their work.
