Number of active diplomatic passports in Turkey is 22 thousand 107

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan responded to a parliamentary question from CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer.

Republican People's Party (CHP) Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer prepared a written parliamentary question for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding passport-based international travel.

In his response, Foreign Minister Fidan announced that the number of active diplomatic passports in Turkey is 22 thousand 107. The response to Gürer's question regarding passport-based international travel noted that Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, and Northern Cyprus are among the countries that can be visited using only a national ID card.

Fidan stated that the number of countries that impose visa requirements on holders of ordinary passports is 112, while also announcing that Turkey imposes visa requirements on holders of ordinary passports from 90 countries.

CHP Deputy Gürer, drawing attention to the fact that Turkey imposes visa requirements on 90 countries, said:

"The number of countries that say 'a passport is not enough, a visa is also required' is striking. In this context, a visa can also be considered as a restriction on the right of a country's citizens to travel. It is noteworthy that while ballot boxes are placed abroad for voting, it is not possible to determine the number of Turkish citizens living abroad. Likewise, the data used to provide services abroad, from education to religious affairs, remains a question mark in this response."
