Number of refugees born in Turkey exceeds half a million

Irregular migrants and refugees under temporary protection were on the agenda at the Migration and Integration Subcommittee, which held its first meeting of the new legislative term at the TBMM.

"AROUND 587 THOUSAND 600 REFUGEES WERE BORN IN TURKEY"

According to a report in BirGün; Head of Migration Management Tarık Toros, addressing the babies born to refugees residing in Turkey, stated that the number has exceeded half a million. Toros said, "There is a figure of around 587 thousand 600, these are the babies born according to our current numbers... Since they are an inseparable part of the family along with their parents and are also issued documents, they are already included in these figures."

PROVIDED INFORMATION ON READMISSION AGREEMENTS

Head of Migration Management Toros also provided information regarding readmission agreements signed to return migrants to their countries of origin. Toros stated, "We are making readmission agreements with source countries; we have readmission agreements with a total of 16 countries." Not disclosing these countries, Toros spoke instead of those that do not wish to enter into agreements. Noting that Iran and Afghanistan, which are among the countries from which the most irregular migrants arrive, have not agreed to sign an agreement, Toros said, "The current situation in Afghanistan is already known to all of you. I can say that even without a readmission agreement, the Afghans and other nationals who are caught without legal right of stay in this country are being sent back just as they are in other countries; in other words, deportation procedures are continuing."
