Number of tourists visiting Istanbul in 4 months revealed

According to data from the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, 4 million 770 thousand 533 foreign tourists arrived in Istanbul in the first 4 months of 2023.

This number increased by 10 percent this year to 5 million 244 thousand 936.

While 1 million 478 thousand 218 foreign tourists arrived in the city in April, 1 million 289 thousand 903 foreign tourists had entered in April of last year. Accordingly, the number of foreign tourists arriving in April increased by 15 percent compared to the same month last year.

In April, 1 million 459 thousand 83 of the tourists arriving in Istanbul preferred air travel. The number of those visiting the city by sea was 19 thousand 135. Those arriving in Istanbul by air increased by 16 percent compared to the same period last year, while those arriving by sea decreased by 29 percent.

In April, 1,276 people entered Istanbul through Atatürk Airport, 394 thousand 772 through Sabiha Gökçen Airport, and 1 million 63 thousand 35 through Istanbul Airport.

1,799 foreign visitors arrived through Tuzla Port, 11 thousand 702 through Karaköy Port, 3 thousand 661 through Sarayburnu Port, 1,279 through Zeytinburnu Port, 308 through Ambarlı Port, 234 through Haydarpaşa Port, 150 through Pendik Port, and 2 through Marmara Port.

While 72.86 percent of those arriving in the city used Istanbul Airport, 27.06 percent preferred Sabiha Gökçen International Airport.

RUSSIANS RANK FIRST

According to April figures, Russians ranked first among foreign visitors with 167 thousand 824 people.

Russia was followed by Germany with 109 thousand 202 tourists, Iran with 80 thousand 193 tourists, the USA with 68 thousand 103 tourists, France with 62 thousand 404 tourists, the UK with 60 thousand 429 tourists, Saudi Arabia with 42 thousand 59 tourists, Italy with 41 thousand 195 tourists, Uzbekistan with 31 thousand 810 tourists, the People's Republic of China with 31 thousand 348 tourists, the Netherlands with 31 thousand 168 tourists, and Azerbaijan with 28 thousand 381 tourists.

Russians made up 11.35 percent of those visiting Istanbul in April, Germans 7.39 percent, and Iranians 5.42 percent. Of the arriving tourists, 4.61 percent were from the USA, 4.22 percent were French, and 4.09 percent were British (United Kingdom).

While tourists from 199 countries arrived in Istanbul in April, one person each from Puerto Rico, Nauru, Tonga, Somaliland, Sao Tome and Principe, Samoa, and North Korea visited the city, while two people each from Tuvalu and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (St. Vincent) visited.

On the other hand, 960 foreign tourists visited Istanbul in April 2020, 419 thousand 686 in April 2021, and 977 thousand 888 in April 2022.
