Öcalan's Nevruz message read in Diyarbakır

During the Nevruz celebrations in Diyarbakır, a message from Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, was read. Emphasizing that a "new page has been turned" in the second resolution process, the terrorist leader called for "democratic integration."

As Nevruz celebrations continue across Turkey, Diyarbakır was one of the key locations for the events. The program, organized under the slogan "Nevruz of Freedom and Democracy," was held at Nevruz Park in the central Bağlar district.


Slogans in favor of PKK terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan were chanted in the area. Subsequently, the message sent by Öcalan was read.

ÖCALAN'S MESSAGE READ

In the message read during the Nevruz program, Öcalan stated, "Today, a new page has been turned. The path for the peoples of this geography to live together freely has been opened. The process we initiated on February 27, 2025, is intended to revive the foundations of a unity in accordance with the spirit of Nevruz."

Öcalan made the following assessments in his message:

"For this, we must believe that cultures and faiths can live together, that we can overcome narrow nationalist understandings and unite on the basis of democratic integration, and that we can exist together. Just as in our history, we must realize today that we can push back all kinds of war impositions, poverty, and barbarism."

The message continued with the following statements:

"The Epic of Nevruz has been celebrated for thousands of years as the festival of resurrection, resistance, and spring for the peoples of the Middle East. Nevruz has revitalized the spirit of resistance and resurrection of our peoples. The symbols and personalities in Nevruz reflect the spirit of this geography. Dehaq is the symbol of the state-based civilization system; the snakes on his shoulders that devour the brains of two young people every day represent the brutality of the Assyrian state, while Kawa the Blacksmith is the embodiment of resistance against oppression.

The religious, sectarian, and cultural wars that have been waged in the Middle East for a thousand years are the greatest blow to the culture of peoples living together. As long as every identity and every faith tries to exist by retreating into its own shell and demonizing the other, the chasm between our peoples deepens. Our common values and common culture are being ignored, and our differences are being turned into reasons for war.

Insisting on continuing obsolete policies in the region has brought disaster. Unfortunately, the divisions created by the policies of suppression, denial, and demonization experienced specifically in the Middle East today also provide a pretext for imperial interventions.

While the religious-sectarian wars that lasted for three centuries in European countries were overcome with the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, the fact that these conflicts have persisted in the Middle East to this day has caused deep tragedies for our peoples. Today, we have the opportunity to enable cultures and faiths to live together again. It is in our hands to turn the environment of war and chaos that is being created in the Middle East into a spring of peoples. We can reverse the tragedies we are forced to live through and turn them into an environment of freedom for the peoples.

Now, the hidden pages of history are being opened, and the possibility of peace between peoples and democratic nation-building is increasing. As Sunni and Shia state traditions and nationalist traditions are overcome, a free unity between peoples also becomes possible."

"A NEW PAGE HAS BEEN TURNED"

Continuing his message, Öcalan stated that the process signals a new era and used the following expressions:

"Today, a new page has been turned. The path for the peoples of this geography to live together freely has been opened. The process we initiated on February 27, 2025, is intended to revive the foundations of a unity in accordance with the spirit of Nevruz.

For this, we must believe that cultures and faiths can live together, that we can overcome narrow nationalist understandings and unite on the basis of democratic integration, and that we can exist together. Just as in our history, we must realize today that we can push back all kinds of war impositions, poverty, and barbarism.

The 2026 Nevruz is the updating of this history in all its majesty. History is becoming present, and it is reaching a great opportunity to find consciousness on the basis of true culture. The meaning and power of Nevruz are emerging on the stage of history as 'now.' The Nevruz of this year and the coming years have such a historical significance.

The 2026 Nevruz is resurrecting through its own roots, becoming present with a great move toward democratization and democratic integration; it is becoming 'Nevruz-ized.' As in history, Nevruz is asserting its weight in the center of the Middle East, effectively resurrecting and playing its role again throughout the region as democratic integration. Such a great 'becoming present' is happening and will continue to happen.

Until now, Nevruz was celebrated with symbolic values. From now on, Nevruz represents not a dream or a utopia, but a communal life that is being realized and developed. Nevruz is the day we will realize ourselves both in meaning and physically."

"LET US EMBRACE A NEW ETHIC OF FREEDOM"

The final part of the message included the following statements:

"Let us cleanse ourselves in Nevruz from all kinds of inadequate relationships and inadequate meanings that we cannot seem to shake off, and let us embrace life with a competent style of relationship, a competent depth of meaning, a new ethic of freedom, and a new understanding of aesthetics.

Let us put the philosophy of 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadî' (Woman, Life, Freedom) into practice in all our relationships and attain a free life. Let us realize that Nevruz is no longer a hope, a dream, or a theory, but a moment of actualization. Let us respond to this moment of actualization with a competent consciousness and a competent depth of meaning.

On the occasion of Nevruz, it is in our hands to turn this year into a true year of freedom for all Middle Eastern peoples and to make the tradition of friendship and solidarity of the peoples dominant. This can be achieved by ending the fragmentation and fratricidal conflict on ethnic and religious-sectarian grounds, and by ensuring the unity of all cultures and religious-sectarian faiths on the basis of freedom and brotherhood.

Against the great social and ecological collapse created by capitalist modernity, we have developed the democratic politics, ecological, and women's liberation-oriented solution of democratic modernity, tied to the freedom spirit of Nevruz.

Let us not give an opportunity for the Middle East, a region that creates culture, to be turned into a battlefield in the hands of hegemonic powers. Just as in history, we can overcome the obstacles to this great culture expressing itself freely and on the basis of its true identities, and integrating, together today. When we leave behind the disease of nationalism and sectarianism and take as our basis the thousands of years of historical solidarity culture of our peoples, there is no obstacle we cannot overcome.

It is also possible to gift democratic politics with such a spirit of unity. If we want to crown the thousands-year struggle of the oppressed, its venue can be found not in the capitalist cultural environment of the East or the West, but in the true freedom environment of the Middle East. We can update democratic integration in these lands by realizing it on the basis of a true meeting and a new humanity, brotherhood, solidarity, and friendship."

"THE 2026 NEVRUZ IS BEING CELEBRATED WITH A SPIRIT OF PEACE AND BROTHERHOOD"

At the end of the message, the following expressions were used:

"I celebrate the Eid al-Fitr of our peoples and wish for the holiday to be a means for peace and brotherhood. The 2026 Nevruz is being celebrated for the first time with the spirit of democratic integration, peace, and brotherhood realized by our peoples, by our people. I join this spirit and will with all my strength, and I wish that Nevruz, which has become worthy of being celebrated as the 'New Day' in its true sense this year, will be a means for the magnificent march of the coming years; I wish peace to all our peoples. I greet you all with love."
