Öcalan tension between CHP and MHP members in AKP-run municipality
Tense moments occurred between CHP Group Spokesperson Murat Akkoç and MHP members at the Elazığ Municipal Council following the arrest of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer. Akkoç's remarks, stating that "the ruling bloc, which calls for Öcalan to be brought to Parliament, has shown the audacity to imprison an elected mayor with a political decision," drew a harsh reaction from MHP members.

The decision to arrest Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and appoint a trustee in his place sparked debate during the November council meeting of the Elazığ Municipality.
According to a report by Sözcü, CHP Group Spokesperson Murat Akkoç's criticism of the ruling bloc caused a reaction from the MHP group. Stating that the government has made calls for Öcalan to be brought to Parliament, Akkoç said, "They have shown the audacity to imprison the elected mayor of Turkey's largest district with a political decision."
MHP council member Behçet Susmaz reacted to these words, saying, "As the Nationalist Movement Party, we are a movement that has thousands of martyrs in Turkey. While you were sleeping in your warm beds, my youth were struggling in the streets."
''DO YOU ACCEPT ÖCALAN BEING BROUGHT TO PARLIAMENT?''
Responding to Susmaz, CHP's Akkoç said, "The youth, soldiers, and martyrs of this country are not under the monopoly of the Nationalist Movement Party. If there were no terrorism in this country, there would be no need for the MHP or other parties. You owe your existence to this terrorist organization."
Taking the floor due to the tension, MHP Council Member Süleyman Soysal emphasized that the MHP is the guarantor of the country, stating, "The MHP is the guarantor of this country's unity and solidarity." Akkoç continued his criticism of the MHP, asking, "How can you remain silent on the call for Öcalan's release within the ruling bloc formed by the AK Party and the MHP?"
MHP's Susmaz, who had difficulty responding to Akkoç's questions and criticisms, stated that the discussion should not be diverted from the primary duties of the municipal council. The debate ended with the intervention of Deputy Council Speaker Aydın Kara.
