Official statement released: It is confirmed that the Somali President's son has fled

The Somali President's son Mohammed Hassan Shekh Mohamud struck motorcycle courier Yunus Emre Göçer from behind with his car. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued an arrest warrant in a letter sent to the Duty Criminal Judgeship of Peace, noting that the suspect had a record of leaving the country.

Following the report by 12punto titled "Somali President's son Mohammed Hassan Shekh Mohamud has fled abroad," it was determined that Mohamud left the country on December 2.

Following the arrest warrant, police teams went to Mohammed Hassan Shekh Mohamud's address in Ataşehir but could not find him. After investigations, it was determined that Mohammed Hassan Shekh Mohamud had left the country on December 2.

STATEMENT FROM THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

The statement made by the Prosecutor's Office regarding the matter is as follows:

"On 30.11.2023, on Kennedy Street in the direction of Aksaray, a collision occurred between the motorcycle with license plate 16 AFL 804 driven by Yunus Emre Göçer and the vehicle with license plate 06 CD 4581, which belongs to the Somali Consulate and has diplomatic protection status, driven by the suspect Mohamed Hassan Seıkh Mohamud. Yunus Emre Göçer was taken to the hospital with injuries, and an investigation was initiated against the suspect for the crime of causing injury by negligence. In the accident report prepared immediately after the incident, it was stated that the motorcycle driver was at fault for violating the lane-changing rule under Article 56/1-A of the Highway Traffic Law, and no fault was attributed to the vehicle driver. Accordingly, the vehicle driver's statement was taken as a suspect on 30.11.2023, and he was released at that stage as the act constituted the crime of negligent injury and based on the reported fault status. As the investigation continued, Yunus Emre Göçer passed away on 06.12.2023 at the Istanbul Training and Research Hospital, where he had been taken as an injured party. With the death of Yunus Emre Göçer, the act turned into the crime of negligent homicide defined in Article 85 of the Turkish Penal Code. On 06.12.2023, the post-mortem examination of Yunus Emre Göçer was performed, and subsequently, the file was submitted to a traffic expert on 07.12.2023 for fault determination. In the report provided on the same day, it was stated that the vehicle driver was primarily at fault and the motorcycle driver had no fault; upon this, instructions were given to law enforcement to bring the suspect in. Investigations revealed that the suspect had left Turkey on 02.12.2023, and for this reason, an arrest warrant was issued for him on 08.12.2023. Furthermore, the file has been sent to the Forensic Medicine Traffic Specialized Department to resolve the contradictions between the findings in the accident report and the traffic expert's report. The public is hereby informed that the investigation is being conducted with diligence."
