Ömer Çelik targets Özgür Özel: 'With the far-right in Europe...'

AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik reacted to the remarks made by CHP leader Özgür Özel regarding AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Targeting Özel, Çelik stated, "Özgür Özel does not know political history, lacks the ability to define politics, and is unaware of political concepts."

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel launched the "Protecting the National Will" rally, which he will hold across the country, in Samsun. 

In his speech at the rally, Özel said the following regarding AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan:

"We do not lean on America, but on the nation. We do not derive our power from Trump, but from the nation. There were those who rolled out the red carpet for those who came to occupy yesterday; today, there are those who seek permission from abroad to stage a coup. 

Yesterday, there were those who fled on a British battleship, disconnected from the people they betrayed; today, there are those who fear the national will and flee from the ballot box. And yesterday, there were those who resisted the seven powers; today, there are the heroes who took the first step in Samsun, the millions who poured into the streets in Saraçhane, Maltepe, and 81 provinces, rising up against the junta and the coup plotters."

A response to Özel's words came from AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik. In a post on his X account, Çelik said, "It is grave that Özgür Özel's political rhetoric shows a one-to-one similarity with the far-right in Europe. The expressions Özgür Özel used toward our President are identical to the hostile words of anti-Turkey and anti-Islam European far-right politicians."

Çelik's post is as follows:

"Our response to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's ugly words toward our President is the same as the response we gave to the far-right in Europe and to the coup plotters and mandate-seekers within Turkey. 

Özgür Özel does not know political history, lacks the ability to define politics, and is unaware of political concepts. 

It is grave that Özgür Özel's political rhetoric shows a one-to-one similarity with the far-right in Europe. 

The expressions Özgür Özel used toward our President are identical to the hostile words of anti-Turkey and anti-Islam European far-right politicians. 

The point Özgür Özel has reached expresses not the field of politics, but anti-politics. There have been many CHP Chairmen who have contributed to politics and left a mark on our political life. Even though there were many ideas we did not agree with, we witnessed the qualified approaches of these chairmen to various political issues. The point Özgür Özel has reached, however, has become the brand of 'unqualified politics'."
