On trial for fraud: Judge changed, Doğu Perinçek’s advisor Emin Adanur released

Citizens who paid hundreds of thousands of liras to Emin Adanur in 2021 with the dream of owning a home never had their houses delivered. Following this, numerous lawsuits were filed against Adanur on charges of fraud.

According to a report by İsmail Arı from BirGün, Adanur, who was being held in custody, submitted a petition to the Bursa 11th High Criminal Court on June 26, 2024, requesting his release under judicial control. Two judges of the three-member high criminal court panel rejected Adanur’s request for release. However, the presiding judge of the High Criminal Court, Basri Alagöz, dissented from this decision, stating that Adanur’s request for release should be accepted.

Adanur appealed this decision, and “whatever happened,” one member of the court panel that had opposed Adanur’s release was changed. In the High Criminal Court’s decision dated July 3, the new member supported Basri Alagöz, who had been calling for Adanur’s release. One member, as in the previous decision, opposed the release and filed a dissenting opinion.

The decision that paved the way for Adanur’s release following the overnight change of a judge on the panel included the phrases, “that detention would not be proportionate and that the same purpose could be achieved with judicial control provisions...”

ONE JUDGE OBJECTED

A member judge of the court who objected to the decision stated in their dissenting opinion, “I do not agree with the opinion of the majority, as I am of the opinion that, considering the amount of the sentence the defendant would receive if found guilty, the continuation of his detention should be ordered.”

Furthermore, Alagöz was promoted from his position as President of the High Criminal Court to become a Chamber President at the Bursa Regional Court of Justice.

One of the cases filed against Adanur had also recently concluded. In the decision of the Bursa 9th High Criminal Court dated June 11, 2024, it was stated that Emin Adanur and his partner Ahmet Demirtaş were sentenced to 9 years and 4 months in prison each for the crime of aggravated fraud. It was also announced that a judicial control decision would be applied to the defendants, including a ban on traveling abroad.

PERİNÇEK HAD DEFENDED HIM

Adanur, who became a member of the Vatan Party in February 2023, was appointed as an advisor to the Vatan Party Chairman. Vatan Party Chairman Doğu Perinçek had defended his advisor, claiming that “Emin Adanur is not a fraudster.”

HAD BAILIFFS BEATEN

In April, Adanur had two lawyers and an enforcement officer who came to his home to seize property due to unpaid debts beaten. Following the criminal complaint filed by the lawyers and the enforcement officer, Emin Adanur and three of his associates were arrested as part of the investigation.
