One more detention in the Atlas Çağlayan murder investigation

The Istanbul Provincial Police Department launched an investigation into individuals who made provocative posts on social media and threatened the family of Atlas Çağlayan, born in 2009, who was killed in Güngören on January 14. Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the prosecutor's office, four suspects were detained the previous day, with one detained for threatening the family and three identified for making social media posts.

While the interrogation of the three suspects at the Istanbul Police Department's Security Branch and one at the Cyber Crimes Branch continues, a new development has occurred. It has been learned that one more person has been detained in connection with the allegations of threats against the victim's family, bringing the total number of detainees to five.

It was reported that the processing of the suspects—three held by the Security Branch and two by the Cyber Crimes Branch—is ongoing at the police station, and that the three suspects currently being questioned at the Security Branch are expected to be referred to judicial authorities around noon today.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On Wednesday, January 14, a fight broke out in front of a business in the Mehmet Nesih Özmen neighborhood of Güngören district between Atlas Çağlayan and E.Ç., who did not know each other, due to a dispute over 'looking the wrong way'.

During the fight, E.Ç. wounded Atlas Çağlayan with a switchblade. Despite being rushed to Bağcılar Training and Research Hospital, Çağlayan could not be saved.
Police teams apprehended E.Ç. and his friends along with the knife used in the incident and took them to the police station for questioning.

Following their processing at the police station, the 15-year-old perpetrator, E.Ç., was sent to judicial authorities and subsequently arrested by the on-duty criminal judgeship of peace.
