Operation at Avcılar Municipality: Many detained

In an investigation conducted by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an operation was carried out in 4 provinces over allegations of public loss in a 2022 asphalt tender.

A simultaneous operation was carried out in 4 provinces, centered in Istanbul, as part of a "corruption" investigation into Avcılar Municipality. During the operation, 13 people were detained, including Avcılar Municipality Head of Science Affairs İsmail Kurtuluş.

It was stated that the investigation, conducted by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, is based on allegations that a 2022 "asphalt production" tender caused a loss to the public.

The names of the individuals detained as part of the investigation were announced as İsmail Kurtuluş, Seçkin Özcan, Salman Kalmaz, Nevzat Yalçın, Dursun Yavuz, Kemal Baki, Kemal Kenar, Gülay Güneş, Burak Güneş, Furkan Karaca, Behçet Hırdar, Celal Hırdar, and Mustafa Timur.

Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara had previously been arrested following an operation conducted as part of the Aziz İhsan Aktaş investigation and was suspended from his duties by the Ministry of Interior.

Following Çaykara's suspension, Yüksel Can, the candidate of the CHP, was elected as the acting mayor in the election held at the Avcılar Municipal Council and took over the office.
