Osman Gökçek first insulted Yılmaz Büyükerşen, then announced he would file a criminal complaint: 'He is a despicable man'

AKP Ankara MP Osman Gökçek announced that he would file a criminal complaint against Eskişehir Metropolitan Mayor Yılmaz Büyükerşen due to remarks made during an election rally.

Gökçek used harsh language toward Büyükerşen. In his statement, Gökçek said, "Yılmaz Büyükerşen is a despicable man. I am saying this very clearly."

"THIS IS IMMORALITY"

Gökçek's statements are as follows:

"One needs to look at Yılmaz Büyükerşen's roots. It seems that his grandfathers or his great-grandfathers were not people who had much to do with our homeland. He attempts to use the expression 'They go to war to find women' for that great commander who conquered Istanbul, that commander who was heralded by the Prophet, and those armies.

Yavuz Sultan Selim is a Sultan who went from these lands to Mecca and Medina, conquered those places, and extended our territories significantly as far as there. He says, 'They do this to find wives when their wives die.' This is immorality.

"DOES A PERSON INSULT THEIR OWN ANCESTOR?"

Yılmaz Büyükerşen is a despicable man. I am saying this very clearly. Such people should not have a place in politics. We are the grandchildren of the Ottomans, we are the children of this republic. We are proud of our country, our republic, and Turkey, just as we are proud of the Ottomans. If a person says this about their own ancestors, in my eyes, there is definitely something wrong with this person's blood. One needs to investigate his grandfather and his lineage. Does a person insult their own ancestors? Does a person insult their own grandfather? In which society in the world does such a thing exist?"

HE CRITICIZED THE DONKEY STATUE

Gökçek also made criticisms regarding Büyükerşen's mayorship. He used the following sentences in his criticism:

"So, what did Yılmaz Büyükerşen, who passes himself off as an intellectual in our country and says these words, do for Eskişehir? He made a statue of a donkey eating sunflower seeds or a museum of mummies. Now this person has stood up—a person who has no proper service or proper work in Eskişehir, a person who calls himself a teacher, a 'professor' at the university—and is insulting the Ottomans. They will know their place; I think they need to know their place with every word they speak. We will do our best to make him know his place, both through legal channels and with our words in front of the public."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Büyükerşen had used the following expressions in his speech:

"There is this Ottoman Empire we sometimes boast about. The one that called us subjects. An Ottoman family that called the public subjects. When you look at the family, all the sultans' wives are foreigners. They are all fair-skinned and blue-eyed. I sometimes tease my friends.

I am not mocking history, but do not misunderstand. Whenever they are going to take a wife for one of the princes, or whichever sultan's wife dies and they are going to take a new wife, they immediately launch an expedition to Europe. So that she will be fair-skinned and blue-eyed."
