Over 13 years of imprisonment requested for CHP bus driver

The incident in the capital began when the bus carrying the CHP delegation, which was heading toward the old Parliament building as part of the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day celebrations, allegedly continued on its route despite repeated "stop" warnings from the police. Following the incident, bus driver Gökhan Gülyurt was taken into custody and later released under judicial control.

In the hearing held today, the victim, traffic police officer Okan Arslan, connected to the courtroom via SEGBIS, and the lawyers for both parties were present. Arslan stated that he was on duty at Roma Square on the day of the incident. "I am filing a complaint because he drove the bus toward us. We gave a stop signal, he did not pull over to the right. He drove toward our other colleague, police officer Sare Yavuz. Police officer Sare pulled back at that moment. The driver then drove the vehicle toward the courthouse in Sıhhiye. We reported the situation to our colleagues on duty in that area," he said.

In their opinion on the merits, the prosecution stated that Gülyurt committed the crime of "resisting to prevent the performance of duty" against four different police officers in a chain-like manner, and requested that the defendant be sentenced to a total of up to 13 years and 6 months in prison.

The judge granted the parties additional time to prepare their defenses and decided to adjourn the hearing to April 13.
