Övgün Ahmet Ercan complains that 'match commentary is more important than earthquake commentary'

The 4.9-magnitude earthquake that occurred in Çanakkale was felt in many places. Following the earthquake, which caused panic among citizens, statements came from expert figures. Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan also complained about the lack of sufficient attention given to his statements.

While the Marmara region has recently been living on edge due to consecutive earthquakes, statements from experts regarding the tremors have been coming one after another.

Television channels, which consult expert figures after almost every earthquake, sometimes do not allocate enough time to the individuals they seek opinions from.

Most recently, Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan made a justified complaint on this matter. Stating that he was called by many television channels after the Çanakkale earthquake to provide his thoughts on the quake, Ercan said that, unfortunately, he was not given enough time.

Stating that the earthquake did not receive as much attention as match commentary, Ercan said that it is impossible to inform citizens within such limited timeframes.

Here is that post by Ercan:

"In this country, match commentary is broadcast all day, every day, on 6-7 channels. Now I went on TV and 5 minutes were allocated.

Unfortunately, as an earthquake scientist, we cannot make informative statements to the public.

How is this an information society? Yet, Istanbul, Çanakkale, Bursa, Yalova, and Balıkesir are on edge."
