Owner of monkey that bit a child fined 41 thousand 817 liras

In Adana, a Rhesus macaque bit a child who wanted to pet it. After these images were published on social media and reported in the news, teams from the Environmental, Nature and Animal Protection Bureau of the Adana Police Department's Public Security Branch took action. 

During their investigation, the police received information that the monkey was being kept in a house in the Küçükdikili-Söğütlü neighborhood of the Seyhan district. The police seized the monkey during a raid on the house. A 16-year-old child named R.Ç. claimed to have found the monkey. A fine of 41 thousand 817 liras was imposed because it was a Rhesus macaque, a species whose ownership and care are prohibited due to public health concerns. The police also seized the monkey and handed it over to the nature conservation directorate.
