Özel reacts to IMM operation: 'HSK rejected our application, everyone will be held accountable'

Taking the floor during the budget negotiations that began at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel brought the agenda to the operations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Özel criticized the government, stating that the accusations directed in the indictment were baseless.

“ONE CANNOT REMAIN SILENT IN THE FACE OF SUCH INEQUALITY”

Stating that the accusations in the IMM file were “groundless,” Özel argued that the operations were politically motivated. Drawing attention to the style of the Chief Public Prosecutor's statement, Özel made the following assessment:

“Statements from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office should be brief and clear; they should not direct the trial. This text is completely contrary to that principle. The HSK needs to turn and look at this Chief Prosecutor.”

COMPLAINT REGARDING GÜRLEK REJECTED

Continuing his speech, Özel brought the subject to the application they made regarding Akın Gürlek, announcing that the CHP's complaint to the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) against the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor had been concluded. Turning to the AKP benches, Özel spoke loudly:

“The application we made to the HSK today was dismissed. The day will come when everyone will be held accountable before an independent judiciary.”

DETAILS OF THE CHP'S APPLICATION

According to information in Birgün, the CHP's complaint petition criticized Akın Gürlek over his membership on the Board of Directors of ETİ Maden, arguing that this duty was incompatible with the office of the prosecutor. The petition requested both judicial and administrative investigations.

The following statements were included in the CHP petition:

“For the reasons explained above and those to be taken into account ex officio, we request by proxy that the necessary judicial and administrative investigations be conducted and sanctions be applied against those complained of.”

It was reported that the HSK responded to the CHP's request on December 8 and that this application was rejected.
