Özel's statement stirs the political scene: Mansur Yavaş's 'presidency' decision!

Following CHP leader Özgür Özel's statement that "If they keep İmamoğlu in Silivri, Mansur Yavaş will be President and İmamoğlu will be Prime Minister," it has been learned that Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, whose name has returned to the agenda for candidacy, will not enter into any candidacy debates until İmamoğlu is released from prison.

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel had announced a new formula in the event that the detention process of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor and his party's presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently held in Silivri Prison, continues.

Speaking on Fatih Altaylı's YouTube channel, Özel had said, "If they keep İmamoğlu in Silivri and impose a ban, we will win the election with 70 percent of the vote, and we will secure the majority in parliament to change the Constitution. In 15 days, we will change the Constitution, and İmamoğlu will be released and begin his duty. The formula found for Tayyip Erdoğan will be found. Or, with great enthusiasm, preparations for a strengthened parliamentary system will be made rapidly. A President will be elected; the President will be Yavaş, and the Prime Minister will be İmamoğlu. As the President who contributes to that process, he will be the figure in the hearts of the nation."

While Özel's remarks, which dominated the agenda, stirred the political scene, sources close to Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş spoke to Nefes Gazetesi columnist Aytunç Erkin.

Erkin, who shared the messages he received from sources close to Yavaş in his column, stated, "Mansur Yavaş will not enter into any presidential candidacy debate until Ekrem İmamoğlu returns to the field, that is, until he is released from prison. He will continue to emphasize the parliamentary system and work for Ankara. When the ballot box is placed, if the nation calls him to duty, he will respond."

The relevant part of Erkin's article titled "He will not enter the debate until İmamoğlu is released from prison" is as follows:

"What do sources close to Mansur Yavaş think about Özgür Özel's 'impartial president' statement?

Yesterday... Three notes reached me. The notes came from names known for their closeness to Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş.

They said:

Mayor Mansur will not enter into any presidential candidacy debate until Ekrem İmamoğlu returns to the field, that is, until he is released from prison.

He will continue to emphasize the parliamentary system and work for Ankara.

When the ballot box is placed, if the nation calls him to duty, he will respond.

Where did these notes come from?

The following sentences, spoken by CHP leader Özgür Özel in an interview on journalist Fatih Altaylı's YouTube channel, created controversy: 'I will get on the bus, Mansur Yavaş will be in another city, and our group deputy chairmen and deputies will meet with the public in different cities. We will continue on our path with this determination. We will win the election with 70 percent. The nation will also give us the majority to change the constitution. We will rapidly transition to a strengthened parliamentary system. In this process, an impartial president will be elected. Mansur Yavaş, who has a place in the hearts of the nation, will become president, and Ekrem İmamoğlu will take over the head of the executive branch as prime minister.'

Upon this, I called names close to Mansur Yavaş. They underlined that there has been no reversal from Yavaş's statement, 'I have suspended my candidacy,' made following İmamoğlu's detention on March 19, and shared the notes at the beginning of my article."
