Grave visit from Özer Aci: 'I gave my son the good news, it is so good to be able to say rest in peace'

The 17-year-old T.C., who is alleged to have caused the death of 29-year-old Oğuz Murat Aci and the injury of 5 others in an accident in Kemerburgaz on March 1, 2024, and was smuggled to the US by his mother Eylem Tok, has been arrested in the US along with his mother.

Approximately 3.5 months after the incident, and following the arrest of the mother and son for whom a red notice had been issued, father Aci visited his son's grave. In his statement, Aci said, "I don't know what the court will decide or how it will go, but first and foremost, I expect their extradition.

They will be tried here or there, but they are criminals after all. My son is lying in the cemetery, and the criminals must pay for their crimes. We will see on Tuesday evening what the result will be. There will be people from our side in the court, they will follow it. Our Minister of Justice also informed us late at night that they had been arrested, may he be well.

We got up in the morning and came to his grave; I gave my son the good news. I am sure that we will reach very good results, and I think they will extradite them. I believe that the judges and prosecutors there will also act according to their conscience. Being able to say 'the child who hit you and his mother have been caught, rest in peace, don't worry, we are looking after your child' is a very beautiful thing. I heard a rumor that the father wanted to meet. But I did not return the call, and it came out in the evening.

He contacted us because he realized he would be caught; I wondered why a person who hadn't called for 115 days would call after 115 days. I spoke with my lawyer; I thought he should tell his lawyer to speak with my lawyer. In our age, no matter which country in the world one goes to, not just Cuba, there are planes to every country, one can go to every country. I wonder what they will say, how they will explain their inhumane behavior.

Whether he goes to a private school or anywhere else, it will never change the truth. No one will congratulate or thank him. It is certain and clear that our special days, Father's Day, Mother's Day, and our holidays will now be spent with a heavy heart. My grandchild will never be able to kiss a father's hand.

It even makes me happy right now; they are staying separately in an American prison for 3 days. 'Oh my child, my child, let Ms. Eylem go and take care of her child, let me see, can she get out?' I will ask her how those 3 days went," he said.

Explaining that she went to her son's grave after the mother and son were arrested, mother Pervin Aci said, "I went, I stayed there a long time today, that is my place. I poured my heart out to my son, 'My son, you couldn't sleep peacefully until this moment, you trusted us a lot, continue to trust us, my son, as long as God gives your father and mother health, we will not let this woman go.'

Ms. Eylem will experience the holiday in very difficult days. Last holiday, I was suffocating at home, I didn't go out. This holiday, I will spend it nicely next to my son, I will talk to him. They do everything, everything is expected of them. I was honestly surprised about Cuba, he would never have returned.

Speaking about the hearing to be held in the US on June 18, Oğuz Murat Aci's wife Şükriye Aci said, "I expect them to be extradited because I would very much like to look them in the eye and talk to them face to face. On the other hand, there is the thought of whether they could be tried under harsher conditions in America. The fact that they are currently under arrest relieves me. They probably realized they would be caught, they wanted to make one last move. It won't change anything, they have never been by our side until today, they haven't truly expressed their remorse.

There is no point in them making a settlement with us after this point. We went to my husband's grave with my son, that's why I didn't talk too much. I will go again, I wanted to bring my son today because it is before the holiday. Also, I want to go for this issue. I don't want to talk about these kinds of topics next to Pars because he understands; I prefer to talk privately so he isn't affected.
