Özgür Çelik, the sole candidate at the congress held last week at the Süleyman Seba Art Center in Beşiktaş where 414 delegates cast their votes, was re-elected as provincial chair with 389 votes. Özgür Çelik went to the Sarıyer District Election Board to receive his certificate of election.
Accompanied by party members and citizens, Çelik received his certificate. Making a statement afterward, Özgür Çelik said, "We just received our certificate from the Sarıyer District Election Board. This certificate is the most concrete indicator that the Republican People's Party will not be designed by court decisions, but by the will of the delegates.
On September 2, a trustee was appointed to the Istanbul Provincial Presidency by a court decision, and within three days, our delegates initiated a signature process regarding an extraordinary Istanbul Congress, and we held our Extraordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress last week. Today, we received our certificate after being elected for the second time by the Sarıyer District Election Board. From here, we are heading to our Chairman's Istanbul Working Office together with our district chairs and administrators. We will hold a brief evaluation meeting there, and afterward, everyone will continue to work in their respective areas of responsibility," he stated.
The 38th CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress had been canceled by an interim decision made by the 45th Civil Court of First Instance. Following the decision, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik and the provincial administration were removed from office, and Gürsel Tekin was appointed to the provincial chairmanship. With the acceptance of the application made by Özgür Çelik and the provincial administration to the Sarıyer District Election Board, it was decided to hold an extraordinary congress on September 24.
The Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance had written a letter stating that holding the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress elections was contrary to the court's decision and that the proceedings should be stopped. Upon the request of the 45th Civil Court of First Instance to stop the CHP Istanbul Provincial Extraordinary Congress, the Supreme Election Council (YSK) decided that the congress should proceed. Özgür Çelik, who was the sole candidate, was re-elected as provincial chair at the congress.
