Özgür Özel: 'An invisible corridor was practically opened for the suicide bombers that day'

On the 8th anniversary of the October 10 Ankara Train Station Massacre, CHP Chairman Candidate Özgür Özel, who laid carnations at the monument during the commemoration ceremony held in front of the Ankara Train Station, spoke about the details of the massacre.

In his statement, Özel noted the following:

• You all hear it, a mother is crying in the back. Can a mother cry non-stop for 8 years? The families of those who lost their lives in this square have been crying out for 8 years because they could not achieve justice. They have no tears left in their eyes, their voices have gone hoarse. They are still crying and there is no one to hear their voices. We follow this trial every month. Not a single public official is being tried in court. The minister who grinned when he received the news of the massacre that day has continued to climb to the highest points of the bureaucracy, and continues to be promoted.

''TWO SUICIDE BOMBERS WERE BROUGHT HERE VIA AN INVISIBLE CORRIDOR''

• Families reached this place today by passing through three security cordons, just as they did in the first year. Yet, 8 years ago that day, two suicide bombers were brought here by having an invisible corridor opened for them. They were not stopped anywhere, nor were they searched anywhere from the moment they crossed the border until they arrived here. None of the protection mechanisms that would have prevented them from carrying out this act were activated. An invisible hand pushed them from behind all the way here and ensured they blew themselves up. Let us not forget that process. The president who was supposedly neutral that day, the partisan president of today, was the country's neutral president. His party had lost the elections for the first time, another government was possible. They were on their way out of power.

''SOME WERE SAYING THEIR VOTES WERE INCREASING''

• Today's alliance partners blocked the path to that possibility as if a button had been pressed somewhere. Then, this country was made to experience its bloodiest period of terror. While invisible hands were inflicting fear and murders on this country, some were saying their votes were increasing. And a terrible period of chaos and fear gathered the frightened crowds behind those who had lost power on June 7. The foundations of this government, which we still cannot get rid of, were laid in these squares. Today, that government still continues by not complying with ECHR rulings, violating the constitution, disregarding court decisions that do not suit its interests, and implementing an oppressive regime. Let those who do not come to this square, those who did not have this monument built, those who forget this pain, and those who protect others in court not be forgotten; let them be seen.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On October 10, 2015, one of the greatest massacres in the history of the Republic of Turkey took place in Ankara. As a result of a terrorist attack carried out by two ISIS suicide bombers who entered among thousands of people gathered at the Ankara Train Station Square for the Labor, Peace, and Democracy Rally, 103 people lost their lives and over 500 people were injured. In the time that has passed, not a single public official with negligence in the massacre has been put on trial.
