The Van Provincial Election Board has ruled that DEM Party candidate Abdullah Zeydan does not meet the eligibility requirements to be elected. The Election Board decided that the certificate of election should be given to the candidate who received the second-highest number of votes. In the elections in Van, AK Party candidate Abdulahat Arvas had received the highest number of votes.
Following the developments, Özel made a statement on his social media account. The CHP Chairman stated that they have assigned members of parliament to monitor the ongoing process.
"Following the decision not to grant the certificate of election to the candidate who won the election in Van, we have assigned a delegation consisting of our deputies Mahmut Tanal, Sezgin Tanrıkulu, Kayıhan Pala, and Sevda Erdan Kılıç to defend the will of the people, show solidarity, and monitor the events on the ground."
