CHP Chairman Özgür Özel traveled to Brussels today following his contacts in Madrid, the capital of Spain, to hold the 61st of the rallies themed "The Nation Protects Its Will."
Özel made the following assessment regarding the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's request for an investigation permit concerning Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş:
“In fact, the requested investigation permit is proof that Mansur Yavaş was not involved in bribery or extortion, and did not rig any tenders. Because the indictment presented is related to these matters. There is no allegation regarding either Mansur Yavaş or his private secretary. It is a procedure applied to civil servants.
They will look at whether an effective investigation was conducted. Mansur Bey had already activated an internal audit mechanism on this matter. Nothing came of that either. The Court of Accounts audit had already come and gone. It was a process that had passed every kind of audit and where there were no problems.
We already believed that Mansur Bey had no responsibility in this matter and that he had done more than his part. He also trusted his team members.
And the situation that has emerged is actually a confirmation of this. But those who try to swap perception with fact are treating Mansur Bey's inclusion in a procedure normally applied to civil servants as if he were guilty... If that were the case, if they had the opportunity to charge him with bribery, extortion, or tender rigging, they would have carried out an operation in the early hours of the morning.
"MANSUR BEY HAS THE SELF-CONFIDENCE TO ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS"
Mansur Bey's approach is extremely appropriate. He says, ‘There is no need to seek permission. Let them summon me. I will come and give my statement,’ he says. He trusts himself. We trust him. We also know that there is no problem. A storm is being stirred up over this issue. This is because the hopes of those who are eager, wondering ‘Is it Mansur Yavaş's turn for an operation?’—especially those who sold Ankara parcel by parcel before him—to prepare a smear campaign against Mansur Yavaş have been dashed. We have no problems regarding Mansur Bey. We trust him. But as he said, if there is anything they are curious about, let them summon him; Mansur Bey has the self-confidence to answer all questions without the need for a permit.”
