CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited the grave of his party's former leader and one of Turkey's former prime ministers, Bülent Ecevit, at the Ankara State Cemetery on the anniversary of his death.
Highlights from Özgür Özel's remarks are as follows:
"Our chairman Bülent Ecevit correctly read the political winds in the 1970s and brought the CHP back into existence. At this time last year, we had promised him that we would do the same, and we succeeded. It was said that there would be revenge and malice in Cyprus during his time, but not a single child's nose has bled in Cyprus since then. Our chairman was a fighter who never compromised on courtesy, and we take him as our example.
'WE ARE CONDUCTING OUR STRUGGLE WITH COURTESY LIKE HIM, BUT IN A DETERMINED AND RESOLUTE MANNER.'
We are conducting our struggle with courtesy like him, but in a determined and resolute manner. Just like Rahşan Hanım and Bülent Bey, men and women are fighting side by side with all our staff. May Bülent Ecevit's soul rest in peace; the CHP, which he made the leading party after many long years, is today once again Turkey's leading party and will come to power as the leading party in the first elections it enters. In the coming years, we will come here as the ruling party."
