Özgür Özel defends Hatay decision: 'I don't think we managed the process poorly'
Following the debates over Hatay that began on the anniversary of the February 6 earthquakes, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had announced that Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP's candidate for the new term, Lütfü Savaş, would be the candidate again. Özel stated that the process was not managed poorly in response to the criticisms.

Making statements regarding Lütfü Savaş's re-nomination, Özel said the following:
"I have been speaking on behalf of the party in Turkey for 9 years. Politics is a job done with people and words, and it cannot be without mistakes. Politics is about choices. One choice satisfies one person and is wrong for another. I have been speaking on behalf of the party for 9 years.
The democratic discussion environment within the CHP, this polyphony, should not be perceived as noise. I do not think we managed the process poorly in Hatay."
