Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel spoke at the "Labor's Turkey Meetings, Secure Employment and Wages Worthy of Human Dignity" workshop.
Emphasizing the inadequacy of the minimum wage, Özel stated that the raise to be made in July should increase the minimum wage to 30 thousand liras.
Özgür Özel included the following statements in his remarks:
“The purchasing power of the minimum wage has fallen to 10 thousand liras. Despite this, it is clear that they are working to avoid bringing the minimum wage to the level it deserves. Currently, CHP deputies are trying to explain this situation to the public. In Istanbul, the minimum wage only covers the cost of living for one person.
We advocate for the minimum wage to be raised again in July to 30 thousand liras. We will not say 'yes' to any figure below this.”
The CHP leader underlined that the minimum wage must be able to cover the costs of living and that citizens must reach an income level where they can live humanely.
