Özgür Özel proposes a 'package' for the return of Syrians: 'No one should expect them to leave immediately'

Following the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, discussions regarding the process of returning Syrians in Turkey to their home country continue.
Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel made statements to Hürriyet columnist Hande Fırat, who is known for her proximity to the government.
Touching upon the developments in Syria and drawing attention to the post-Assad power structure and territorial integrity in the country, Özel said, "Kurds, Arab Alawites, Sunnis—that is, all ethnic and sectarian groups in Syria—must be included in political and social life equally. This is only possible through the representation of all of them by the Syrian state."
"NO ONE SHOULD EXPECT PEOPLE TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY"
Speaking on the process of returning Syrians in Turkey to their country, Özel proposed a return package.
Stating, "While it is unclear who holds what weapons, and while Israel continues to drop bombs, no one should expect people to immediately take their spouses and children and leave," Özel added, "A return-home package needs to be prepared for Syrians. A specific date could be set, and it could be stated that those who return by this date can benefit from the package."
Özel also stated that it is important for infrastructure and housing to be built in the places where the Syrians will return.
