Özgür Özel's statement on trustee appointments: 'If he has a conscience, he will tell these truths in front of Turkey'

Following the appointment of trustees to the Tunceli and Ovacık municipalities, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel reacted to the decision in a statement. Özel said, "I express once again that we are completely and utterly against trustees, regardless of which party they are appointed to. On November 30, our 414 elected mayors, including Mustafa Sarıgül, will come to this hall, and I hope that Ahmet Özer will also be released by that day."

Following the municipalities of Esenyurt, Mardin, Batman, and Halfeti, trustees have now been appointed to the Tunceli and Ovacık municipalities. Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel made a statement regarding the trustee appointments at the 'Equality is the Solution' workshop organized by the CHP Women's Branch.

"WE WILL FIND THAT PROSECUTOR"

Stating that they are against trustees regardless of which party's municipality they are appointed to, Özgür Özel said regarding the trustee decision made against CHP's Ovacık Mayor Mustafa Sarıgül: "Two children die in two different places; one is from one worldview, the other from another, but for a mother, both are children.

Those who go to offer condolences to that mother are not committing a terrorist act. They are going to the mother of someone whose book of deeds has been closed a day ago and who will account for their actions in the hereafter. You cannot manufacture a crime against someone who goes to offer condolences to a mother or father over someone who has passed away.

We will find that prosecutor, we will bring them out, and we will make that prosecutor speak. If they have fairness and a conscience, they will tell these truths in front of Turkey. But what does it mean to open this case two years ago? What does it mean to look back ten years? And one needs to see what kind of mentality we are facing," he said.

Özel's statements are as follows:

NO MOTHER OR FATHER CAN BE HELD RESPONSIBLE

I am telling Mr. Erdoğan: Condolences are offered to the living, not the dead. No mother or father is, or can be, held responsible for the political views, crimes committed, or organizational affiliations of their lost child.

THOSE WHO GO TO OFFER CONDOLENCES DO NOT COMMIT TERRORIST ACTS

Two children die in two different places; one is from one worldview, the other from another, but for a mother, both are children.

WE WILL MAKE THAT PROSECUTOR SPEAK

We will find that prosecutor, we will bring them out, and we will make that prosecutor speak. If they have fairness and a conscience, they will tell these truths in front of Turkey. But what does it mean to open this case two years ago? What does it mean to look back ten years? And one needs to see what kind of mentality we are facing.

WE ARE AGAINST TRUSTEES REGARDLESS OF WHICH PARTY THEY ARE APPOINTED TO

I express once again that we are completely and utterly against trustees, regardless of which party they are appointed to. On November 30, our 414 elected mayors, including Mustafa Sarıgül, will come to this hall, and I hope that Ahmet Özer will also be released by that day.

We have invited our 414 mayors to this hall, and we will show both friends and those who are not that we are not afraid, that we have not cowered, that when we are targeted individually, we will not leave the others alone, and that we are shoulder to shoulder in the struggle against both the trustees and the activities the AK Party has initiated against all our mayors to prevent them from working and to discredit them. We will make both friends and those who are not feel the concern to the fullest with the consciousness of the Republican People's Party.
