Responding to journalists' questions on Halk TV, Özgür Özel claimed that the political success the CHP has achieved recently has disturbed certain circles. Reminding that the party has risen to the top position in elections after many years, Özel stated that this success is the fundamental reason for the current process.
Stating that they have implemented their promises of change within the party since he took office, Özel said that a new era has begun in which young people and women take a greater role in politics.
"The main goal is the lifting of immunities"
Touching upon the disciplinary decisions within the party, Özel alleged that there are different agendas behind the referral of some deputies to the disciplinary board with a request for expulsion. Arguing that these steps carry a message aimed at lifting the immunities of the relevant deputies, Özel claimed that the decisions are contrary to the party charter.
"I see a serious reaction in the field"
Explaining that they have come together with citizens at rallies held in different regions of Turkey, Özel stated that he has observed serious disappointment and anger at the grassroots level. Stating that this sentiment must be managed correctly, Özel emphasized that energy should be directed toward political struggle rather than intra-party conflicts.
"The issue is not personal, it is political"
Saying that the ongoing debates should not be interpreted through individuals, Özel argued that the process is about the future of Turkey's democracy and politics. Expressing that the CHP becoming an alternative to the government has disturbed some circles, Özel stated that their struggle is not personal but political.
"We will not abandon the CHP"
Responding to the question of whether he would leave the party, Özel stated that the CHP is not an ordinary political structure. Drawing attention to the party's historical mission, Özel said, "We have no intention of leaving this party. We will continue our struggle for the future of the CHP."
At the end of his statements, Özel stated that the party would not give up its goal of coming to power and that the CHP would continue on its path with determination.
