The YENİ Party, founded by figures who left the Republican People's Party (CHP) under the leadership of Özgür Özel, held its first group meeting in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).
HE CONFUSED THE PARTY NAME
Speaking at the meeting, Özgür Özel conveyed his wishes for health and peace to former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, who announced his retirement from politics. However, he had a slip of the tongue while attempting to convey well wishes to Davutoğlu on behalf of the YENİ Party group.
HE STARTED THE SENTENCE WITH "CUMHURİYET"
Özel began his sentence with the words, "To him, Cumhuriyet." He then realized his mistake, rephrased his sentence, and stated, "On behalf of the YENİ Party group, we wish him success in his future life."
HE RESPONDED TO THE LAUGHTER IN THE HALL
Laughter erupted in the hall following the slip of the tongue. In response, Özgür Özel told the party members, "Laughter is expected. There's no sin on the first day."
Those moments from the meeting quickly became a trending topic.
