Dilruba K., who spoke during a street interview in the days when the Instagram ban was in effect, was arrested due to her remarks.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who had previously announced that he would visit Dilruba K., went to the prison today.
Özel made a press statement following the visit:
"Statements made in front of prisons against unjust arrests are not what Turkey deserves. Dilruba's detention is completely unlawful. Launching arrest campaigns as if words spoken into a microphone would topple your government is nothing but a sign of the helplessness of those in power. We hope she will be released at the hearing. Turkey needs to move past artificial agendas."
STATEMENT ON KILIÇDAROĞLU: YOU WOULD HAVE TO STEP OVER MY DEAD BODY
Özel also spoke about the lawsuit filed against former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
Özel stated the following:
"We learned yesterday that an indictment has been prepared for our former chairman, Kılıçdaroğlu.
The criminal complaint filed against Kılıçdaroğlu is a fabrication by the MHP to cover up their own exhaustion, their fall from the public eye and the nation's favor, and the flaw of being associated with criminal organizations. The indictment written against Kılıçdaroğlu will not cover up the blood of Sinan Ateş.
These things mean nothing to Kılıçdaroğlu. Are you going to put him in jail? To put our previous chairman in jail, you would have to step over the dead body of the current chairman. I challenge you. If they are going to try Kılıçdaroğlu, I will go and sit in the place where he is supposed to sit (the defendant's chair)."
WHAT HAPPENED?
A lawsuit has been filed against former CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. A 'political ban' was also requested for Kılıçdaroğlu, who faces up to 3.5 years in prison. Making a statement regarding the case, Kılıçdaroğlu’s lawyer Celal Çelik said, "The fact that a criminal case has been opened based on expressions similar to those used by AKP members reveals the state the judiciary has reached."
