Özgür Özel's statement on meeting with DEM Party

CHP leader Özgür Özel, regarding whether there will be a meeting with the DEM Party delegation that visited terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı, stated: "We will evaluate with our colleagues whether such a meeting will take place, at what level it would be, or how a party leader not holding this meeting would affect this process."

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel attended the 110th-anniversary commemoration events of the Sarıkamış Operation in the Sarıkamış district of Kars.

Responding to journalists' questions, Özel made statements regarding the new resolution process, which began with the call from MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli and became more concrete with the DEM Party delegation's visit to İmralı to meet with the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan.

"The essence of the matter is this: We propose that Parliament not be excluded, that progress be transparent and sincere, and that there be a social consensus," said Özel, adding, "The most important cornerstone of this social consensus for us is the families of martyrs and veterans. If we can look into the eyes of countless fathers of martyrs and veterans here, it is thanks to this stance of ours. We will maintain this stance. We will not say 'yes' to anything that the families of martyrs and veterans do not say 'yes' to. We will not engage in any attitude that would hurt them."

WILL THERE BE A MEETING WITH THE DEM PARTY?

When asked whether there would be a meeting between the DEM Party delegation and the CHP, Özel replied, "We will evaluate the situation at the MYK meeting. But no one should, on such an issue, say 'Well, all party leaders should meet, but one party leader should position themselves differently'... These would be turning this issue into political strategies. That would not be the right thing to do."

Özel noted the following:

"We are evaluating this issue thoroughly with our colleagues. I cannot say anything like that before the MYK meeting concludes. Furthermore, we will evaluate with our colleagues whether such a meeting will take place, at what level it would be, or how a party leader not holding this meeting would affect this process."
