CHP Chairman Özgür Özel spoke in Muğla. Özel had previously called on MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli regarding his People's Alliance partner, Hüda-Par, which has been attempting to open the first four articles of the Constitution to debate.
Following his call, Özel responded to the words coming from Bahçeli. Özel stated the following:
Since Mr. Bahçeli is in good health, I am very pleased. Yesterday, he appeared and, in a very healthy manner, said whatever came to his mind about us.
May he be well, but yesterday he said, 'We look poorly upon those who look askance at the first four articles; they have no place in our hearts,' and so on.
Mr. Bahçeli, I swear I saw it; never mind looking askance at the first four articles, he is saying whatever comes to his mind, and you are holding hands. You look like you are dancing a halay. He is looking at you with crossed eyes.
How much longer will you hold the hand of this Hüda-Par member? If you continue to go with him to Ahlat, to Malazgirt, to Samsun—places that made this country a homeland for us—and hold hands while starting the national struggle, this nation will not just look askance at you, it will tear you from its heart. I am warning you all.
WHAT DID BAHÇELİ SAY?
Bahçeli had expressed the following:
Özel asked what I would say to Hüda-Par. It would be more reasonable for this political defect, who does not know procedure or style, to explain his affiliation with the DEM party.
It is no one's right or place to ask the MHP questions about the first four articles or to subject it to a test.
Whoever they may be, regardless of their position, those who look askance at the first four articles of the Constitution are null and void to us. They have no value to be taken seriously. The MHP views those who say the fourth article should be changed as deranged. We are in favor of a new Constitution that remains loyal to the first 4 articles of the Constitution.
WHAT DOES HÜDA-PAR SAY?
Hüda-Par Chairman Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu, known for his words, "I cannot call Hezbollah and the PKK terrorist organizations," had attempted to open the first four articles of the Constitution to debate. Yapıcıoğlu had requested the amendment of the fourth article, which is the guarantor of the first three articles. Yapıcıoğlu's statement had drawn significant backlash.
