Özgür Özel to hit the campaign trail in June: 'A 10-province tour of the east'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel is set to resume his eastern tour in June, which was previously cut short due to the TUSAŞ attack. The massive visit, planned in two legs and covering 10 cities, will address the economy, democracy, and regional processes.

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel is preparing for an intensive schedule of visits covering 10 provinces in the east throughout June. As part of the tour, with preparations meticulously managed by the party headquarters, Özel will meet with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), opinion leaders, tradespeople, youth, and citizens to directly present the CHP's vision on the ground.

Cut short by the TUSAŞ attack: The route has expanded

Özgür Özel will complete the eastern tour he began in October 2024—but was forced to cancel due to the terrorist attack on TUSAŞ in Ankara—by expanding the route this time.

The visits, planned to be carried out in two stages during June, will include Siirt, Bitlis, Muş, Bingöl, and Tunceli in addition to the previously planned but interrupted route of Diyarbakır, Mardin, Şırnak, Hakkari, Batman, and Van.

''WE WILL CONTINUE TO STAND ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY''

Stating that there is significant interest and sympathy toward the CHP in the region, party officials used the following striking expressions regarding the political stance and messages to be conveyed during the visits:

“There is great interest and sympathy for our Chairman's stance in the region. Our position is clear. Beyond the pressures we face and our institutional situation, we stand for peace. We stand by our signature. We will continue to stand on the right side of history. The government must do what is necessary without delay, in line with the parliamentary report on this matter. We will express this stance of ours at the highest level.”

''THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM IN THE REGION IS THE ECONOMY''

Emphasizing that the trip will not be limited to political processes and that the most fundamental problem in the region is the economy, CHP officials summarized their economic development model with these words:

"The most fundamental problem in the region right now is the economy. We will also present the CHP's approaches to this issue. How can inclusive development be achieved? What can be done to eliminate regional inequality and inequality in development alongside peace? The share the region has received to date has always remained in the background due to violence and terrorism. The provinces in the region are the places where the national income is lowest. After the peace process is concluded, what can be done for the development of the region? This will be our special agenda."
