Call from Özgür Özel ahead of the Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray derby: He warned those advertising on ATV

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel answered journalists' questions in Trabzon following the funeral of Volkan Konak.

Highlights from Özel's statements are as follows:

"Our Ortahisar District Mayor from Trabzon is here. We will name a street in the most appropriate place in Ortahisar after him. From now on, Republican People's Party municipalities across Turkey will keep his name alive by organizing events and by naming buildings, structures, and concert halls dedicated to culture and arts after him.

However, we will fulfill our debt to Volkan Konak when we make the party of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, whom he missed so much, the ruling power, and when we continue this country's march of enlightenment with a government where those who walk in the path of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk are the President and Ministers."

THE ÇATALCA MUFTI

"(Çatalca Mufti Ahmet Mehmetalioğlu) Sometimes in certain parties, someone says something, or a public official makes a mistake. The moment that mistake is made, it belongs to the individual. For example, if the political party does not own that statement, it opens an investigation, refers them to discipline, shows its stance, and does not shoulder that error. When this happens in the state, the relevant institution must do this. Days have passed, and this object called the Çatalca Mufti, this inhumane creature called the Çatalca Mufti, has become so dishonorable as to say 'he croaked on stage' for Volkan Konak... implying Volkan Konak's alcohol consumption by saying 'How did we know him' and calling Volkan Konak 'someone who croaked.' If they had opened an investigation and suspended him at that very minute, I wouldn't be talking about this. But so much time has passed, his family has filed a criminal complaint, his family is saying this while sobbing, and the man is still serving in the Çatalca Muftiate."

"I AM ASKING ERDOĞAN"

"Now, while the Presidency of Religious Affairs and the President of Religious Affairs have expressions like 'Remember your dead with kindness,' and while they themselves remind people of these expressions from time to time, this is not just anyone. The Çatalca Mufti is the man at the very top representing the Presidency of Religious Affairs in Istanbul's Çatalca district regarding the provision of religious services. Not opening an investigation into this means saying 'I share those expressions.' I am asking this to the President of Religious Affairs and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Tears are flowing like a flood for someone like Volkan Konak. All of the Black Sea, all of Turkey is crying for him. And you say nothing to this person who says he 'croaked' and tries to pit a very significant part of society against each other by making references to his lifestyle. So, is Recep Tayyip Erdoğan saying for Volkan Konak that 'he has croaked'? Is that so?"

"WILL YOU REMAIN SILENT AGAINST SOMEONE WHO CURSES BEHIND A DEAD MAN?"

"At 11:30 PM, 5 Ministers and one Vice President lined up to rush to pro-government channels against the boycott of the youth. Mr. Vice President, the most reasonable name in the cabinet. What are you saying? Let the press members following him extend the microphone. Are you sharing this shame? Is this it? Is this the bravery, the manliness of all AK Party members? Will you remain silent against someone who curses behind a dead man? Be silent! This man is the one who said there were +18 images of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the December 17-25 process. This man is the person who supported FETÖ during FETÖ's operations. Oh Recep Tayyip Erdoğan! You have no respect for Volkan Konak, no respect for the funeral. Look, we protected your legal rights during those processes, we protected you on July 15. They are keeping a man who tweeted that you had shameful images as a mufti in Çatalca. And you are sitting at the head of the state calling yourself the President. Shame on you!"

"BOYCOTT IS A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT"

"(Boycott calls and the investigation launched) First of all, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor has completely lost his sense of proportion, he has lost his consciousness. It is unclear what he is doing, what he is achieving. First of all, it is clear in the decisions of both the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights that a boycott is a constitutional right. Secondly, the party that has brought this boycott to Turkish politics most closely in the recent period is the AK Party. They are the ones who boycotted the Doğan Media Group separately in 2008 and 2009. They are the ones who have made boycott calls on various occasions in recent years. A boycott is a constitutional right. Whoever makes the call does so, whoever agrees follows, and whoever does not, does not. "WE SUPPORT THE STUDENTS' CALL"

"But today, beyond the boycott we announced ourselves, we are supporting the call for a general consumption boycott by 301 of our young friends who are under arrest and by university students. The youth invited everyone who values our word not to use credit cards, not to make cash purchases, and to reduce or zero out spending as much as possible today. And they said with a slogan, 'A day for us.' We also supported this demand of theirs. Well, we will see what results will be obtained today. "WE WILL NOT TURN ON ATV TO WATCH THE DERBY"

But of course, we will not turn on ATV to watch the Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray match this evening. Those who advertise on ATV, let me say this too. ATV is receiving a lot of advertisements today. It will issue an invoice tomorrow based on this evening's ratings. If you watch a lot, ATV will earn a lot of money. If it is watched little, it will earn little money. I will support Fenerbahçe from my heart today. My dear mother's team, Galatasaray, is our sister club. We wish a good match for both of them. "THE PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPERIORITY IS WITH US"

The sentence Ekrem İmamoğlu received restricts his freedom of movement. It does not restrict his freedom of thought or the expression of his ideas, but they cannot even tolerate that. I don't think there will be any restrictions. In fact, the accounts of many politicians who are already in prison have been used for years. It hasn't occurred to anyone. What kind of fear of Ekrem İmamoğlu is this that, first of all, if he is in jail, he shouldn't even be able to tweet. They would almost say if he is in jail, he shouldn't even breathe. If they weren't ashamed, they would give the death penalty. We will hold them all accountable for this."
