Özgür Özel reacts to Muhittin Böcek claims: 'AK Toroslar Gang' sent men, told him to 'slander'

Following the arrest of İmamoğlu, the "The Nation Protects Its Will" rallies, held every Wednesday in an Istanbul district and every weekend in different provinces of Turkey, took place this week in the Esenyurt district. 

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel addressed the crowd.

Reacting to the allegations that Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek would become a whistleblower, Özel said, "The 'AK Toroslar Gang' sent men all the way to Antalya. They told him, 'Slander the CHP.' Muhittin Böcek replied, 'I cannot slander anyone; my health does not permit it, but my morality does not permit this either.'"

Özgür Özel continued his remarks as follows:

Do not overestimate the coup plotters before us. They are neither the state nor the nation; they consist of a handful of incompetent people who have entrenched themselves within the state. The nation is not behind them; they do not represent the nation. There are, of course, many conscientious judges and honorable prosecutors, but these people are a threat to them as well. They are a source of professional shame for them.

When they could not convince the nation through politics; when they could not produce politics through the women's branches, youth branches, or the main organization, they turned and established 'judicial branches.' Now these judicial branches are coming at us from all sides. Look at what they did today... They said: Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek has supposedly become a whistleblower. Well, what is Muhittin Böcek going to confess?

Muhittin Böcek made a statement. He said, 'I take 14 pills a day.' He constantly faces vital difficulties. He spent 120 days in intensive care during the COVID period. He remained intubated for 104 days. They are shamelessly slandering him. But then we learned that this 'AK Toroslar' gang went all the way there... And those who leaked to the press yesterday that he 'would be a whistleblower' are the same people here.

The Chief Public Prosecutor there does not even know about it. They send men to Muhittin Böcek from here and tell him, 'Slander the CHP.' We do not let them off the hook, and they, in their own minds, are making moves in Antalya. Muhittin Bey wrote the following at the bottom of the slanderous document brought to him: ‘I was the incumbent mayor. There was nothing more natural than my candidacy. My party looked at the polls, made its decision, and made me the candidate. I cannot slander anyone. My health does not permit it; but my morality does not accept this either.'

I am reporting those who made this immoral offer to Muhittin Bey, those who test him and his family with his health; those who left Mehmet Murat Çalık defenseless against cancer in prison; those who kept our deputy mayor in Paşakapısı prison while he was about to have his heart valve replaced; I am reporting them to God and the nation. I sincerely believe that you will see to their reckoning in the first election and that you will settle their accounts.
