Pakistan's new prime minister has been determined
Shehbaz Sharif, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party, has been elected prime minister in a parliamentary vote.

According to a report by The Dawn newspaper, Sharif, the joint candidate of an alliance consisting of the PML-N, the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), and other political parties, has become Pakistan's new prime minister.
National Assembly Speaker Sadiq announced that Sharif was elected prime minister for the second time after receiving 201 of the valid votes cast in the assembly.
In the prime ministerial election, Sharif's opponent, Omar Ayub Khan, the candidate for former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), received 92 votes.
Sharif previously served as the Prime Minister of Pakistan between 2022 and 2023.
Shehbaz Sharif, the brother of three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif, was elected prime minister on April 11, 2022, after receiving the support of the majority with 174 votes in the election held in the assembly, and governed the country until August 2023.
