Panorama May survey released: Atatürkism at the top

The survey results regarding the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) operation, which began with the arrest of presidential candidate and IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, are drawing attention. The public views these operations not as a "legal process," but rather as a "political case."

With the 5th wave of operations carried out on May 31, more than 100 people, including presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, were arrested. In the operations conducted so far, a total of 11 CHP mayors have been sent to prison.

Within the scope of the latest operation, arrest warrants were issued for 22 people, including the mayors of Avcılar, Büyükçekmece, Gaziosmanpaşa, Ceyhan, and Seyhan.

Journalist Ertuğrul Özkök shared the results of the Panorama Research May survey.

Despite the intense propaganda efforts of the pro-government media, the Panorama Research May survey showed that, contrary to expectations, these moves were met with a negative reaction from the public and did not find resonance in the public conscience.

The public calls it a "political case"

One of the striking results of the survey was the public's thoughts on the judicial process conducted against IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. In May, the rate of those who evaluated the process as "political" increased by 1 point to 54 percent, while the rate of those who thought it was a "legal process" decreased by 1.5 points to 32 percent.

TRUST IN THE JUDICIARY IS IN DECLINE

According to the survey, trust in institutions has also weakened significantly. Trust in the judiciary has fallen even behind trust in the Presidency of Religious Affairs. Only 2.7 out of every 10 citizens stated that they trust the judiciary.

Only 1.5 out of every 10 people trust the press, which ranks at the bottom of the list of trust in institutions. In contrast, there is one judicial institution that the public trusts: the Constitutional Court.

The survey also revealed the public's views on the causes of the economic crisis. Citizens evaluate the reasons for the poor performance of the economy as follows:

33.9 percent: The economic policy pursued by the government

28.9 percent: The operation against the IMM

22.9 percent: Developments in the global economy

ATATÜRKISM AT THE TOP

In the responses given to the question "How do you define your identity?", those who said "I am an Atatürkist" ranked first with 31.7 percent, followed by the answer "I am a nationalist" with 22.7 percent.

As a result, the Panorama survey showed that the interventions against the IMM are perceived by the public as a political move and that they are held responsible for the economic crisis.
