Paris Council grants 'honorary citizenship' to imprisoned İmamoğlu: 'He must be released immediately'
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo announced that the Paris Council has granted "honorary citizenship" to Ekrem İmamoğlu, the CHP's presidential candidate and Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB). In a message published in both French and Turkish, Hidalgo stated, "We continue to demand the immediate release of Ekrem İmamoğlu."

Ekrem İmamoğlu, President of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB), CHP presidential primary candidate, and Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), was detained on March 19 as part of an investigation into "terrorism" and "corruption" targeting the İBB, and was arrested on March 23. İmamoğlu was arrested and taken to Silivri Prison on charges of "rigging tenders, recording personal data, bribery, and establishing an organization" as part of the investigation into "corruption" within the İBB.
Following his arrest, he was removed from his position as Mayor of the İBB by a decision of the Ministry of Interior.
