Parliament grants authority: 'Erbakan' mansion from Esenler Municipality to Trabzon

The AKP-led Esenler Municipality has granted a notable protocol authorization to Mayor Tevfik Göksu and Deputy Mayor Hasan Taşçı.

NO DISCLOSURE ON HOW MUCH MONEY WILL BE SPENT

According to a report by İsmail Arı from BirGün, the proposal submitted to the Council stated: "Efforts are underway to revive the Pertev Pasha Mansion, one of Trabzon's significant cultural assets where our late Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Necmettin Erbakan was born and raised, by reconstructing it in accordance with its historical texture and bringing it into our cultural life. The National Youth Foundation, which holds public benefit status and to which the mansion has been allocated, requested our support for the project in a letter dated September 21, 2023."

Despite the dissenting votes from CHP council members, the AKP council members voted by majority to grant Mayor Göksu and his deputy Taşçı the authority to sign the protocol with the National Youth Foundation. It was not disclosed how much money the Esenler Municipality will spend from its coffers for the reconstruction of the mansion.

ERBAKAN LIVED THERE FOR 5 YEARS

The Pertev Pasha Mansion, where Erbakan is said to have lived between 1933 and 1938, was demolished in 2021. It was subsequently stated that the building would be reconstructed in accordance with its original form.

In a statement made by the Anadolu Youth Association (Anadolu Gençlik Derneği) Trabzon Branch, the youth wing of the Felicity Party, it was said: "The original construction materials of the Pertev Pasha Mansion were stone and wood. The demolished building was a reinforced concrete structure. After the building is reconstructed in accordance with its original form, it will be used as a youth center where a museum and youth activities will be conducted to keep the memory of the late Prof. Dr. Necmettin Erbakan alive. It will continue to live on among the cultural heritage of our city."
