Parties eligible to have members in provincial and district election boards determined

The decisions regarding the 35 political parties that can take part in provincial and district election boards for the local elections and the principles for the selection of members have been published in the Official Gazette.

The Supreme Election Council (YSK), which has initiated the election calendar for the March 31 local elections, has published its decision in the Official Gazette regarding the selection of political party members who will serve on provincial and district election boards.

According to the decision, the political party members serving on district election boards will be re-determined by the last week of January.

According to another decision by the YSK published in the Official Gazette, the principles regarding the selection of members for district election boards have been determined. The 'Conclusion' section of YSK decision No. 2024/5 is as follows:

"Political parties that have at least one member elected to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey from their own list in the last parliamentary general and by-elections, or those determined and announced by the Supreme Election Council in accordance with the fourth clause of the first paragraph of Article 14 of Law No. 298 (even if their party names have changed through their bylaws), and which have an organization in that province and district, shall each have one representative on the provincial and district election boards.

1- The political party members serving on district election boards shall be re-determined by the last week of January 2024 (January 29, 2024 - January 31, 2024), in accordance with the provisions written in Articles 18 and 19 of Law No. 298 and taking into account the procedures and principles stated above,

2- The chairpersons and members of the provincial election boards, the chairpersons and civil servant members of the district election boards formed in accordance with our Council's decision dated 13/4/2022 and numbered 2022/142, and the political party members of the district election boards to be re-determined in accordance with this Decision; shall continue their duties until the re-formation of all members in the last week of January 2025, in accordance with the provisional Article 25 of Law No. 298,

3- Every change made regarding the formation of the boards shall be recorded in minutes before the board and sent immediately to the Supreme Election Council along with the oath-taking minutes,

4- The provisions of the Supreme Election Council's decisions dated 13/4/2022 and numbered 2022/142, and dated 12/1/2022 and numbered 2022/16, which are not contrary to this Decision, shall continue to be applied, it was decided unanimously on 3/1/2024."
