Passenger bus and semi-truck collide on Northern Marmara Motorway: Casualties reported

One person died and 37 others were injured following a collision between a passenger bus and a semi-truck on the Northern Marmara Motorway.

According to the information received, a passenger bus with license plate 22 AAH 806, belonging to Volkan Metro Turizm, collided with a semi-truck with license plate 50 ACK 779 traveling in the same direction on the Northern Marmara Motorway near the Odayeri location, heading toward Edirne.

Upon notification, numerous ambulances, fire department units, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the scene of the accident.

The bus assistant, Halil A. (26), lost his life in the accident, and 37 people were injured. The driver, who was trapped in the bus, was rescued by fire crews.

The injured were transported to hospitals by ambulance.

Rüştü Ünlü, one of the passengers on the bus, stated that the bus was traveling from Ankara to Edirne and said, "There were people trapped in the accident. During the crash, there were those who suffered broken legs and necks."

Traffic backed up in the direction of Edirne due to the accident. Teams have begun efforts to remove the bus and the semi-truck involved in the crash.

In a statement regarding the tragic accident, the Istanbul Governor's Office included the following remarks:

At 04:18, in a traffic accident that occurred on the Northern Marmara Motorway near the Kısırkaya neighborhood of Sarıyer, in the direction of Edirne, resulting from a collision between a passenger bus and a semi-truck, one person lost their life and 37 people were injured.

Treatment for 11 of the injured was provided at the scene, and there was no need for them to be transported to a hospital.

The other 26 people injured in the accident were taken to nearby hospitals, and the injured are not in life-threatening condition.
