The Kazakhstan Ministry of Emergency Situations announced that a passenger plane traveling from Baku to Grozny has crashed. Authorities stated that there are survivors on the Azerbaijan Airlines flight.

According to information in the Azerbaijani press, the plane, which sent an "SOS" signal over the Caspian Sea, subsequently attempted an emergency landing at Aktau Airport in Kazakhstan.

Initial reports indicate there were 67 passengers and 5 crew members on board.
