Pay attention to these details when buying sacrificial animals!

Hasan Baysal, President of the Ayvalık and Gömeç Chambers of Agriculture and owner of the largest farm in Balıkesir Ayvalık, issued important warnings to citizens who will purchase sacrificial animals before the upcoming Eid al-Adha.

In his statement, Baysal said, “The most important point our citizens should pay attention to when buying their sacrificial animals is that a bovine animal to be purchased must have completed 2 years of age. We call this ‘çapak attı’ (shedding milk teeth) among the public. The shedding of the two front lower teeth of bovine animals after reaching 2 years of age is defined as ‘çapak attı’. In this respect, the animal shedding these teeth is very important for it to be selected as a sacrifice. Animals that have not shed these teeth, meaning they have not lost their milk teeth, cannot be chosen as a sacrifice. Therefore, animals that have shed their teeth as of 2 years of age and have gotten rid of their milk teeth become suitable for selection as a sacrifice,” he said.

EXPLAINED WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN SACRIFICIAL ANIMALS

Pointing out that for ovine animals to be suitable for sacrifice, they must be at least 6 months old and have grown taller than their mother, Baysal stated, “Besides this, it is important that the animal has no missing limbs. For example, its horns should not be broken, it should be well-fed, and it should appear healthy. One of the important points when buying a sacrificial animal is that it should not have drooling saliva and its feet should not be painful. If the animal has a nasal discharge, it definitely has an illness. Perhaps it has caught a cold, but God forbid, this could also be a harbinger of foot-and-mouth disease. Therefore, it is beneficial to stay away from such animals when buying a sacrifice. Because such animals are already not suitable for sacrifice and carry serious risks in terms of human health,” he said.
