‘Illegal construction’ penalty for Arda Turan’s mother

A lawsuit had been filed against Yüksel Turan, the mother of former Galatasaray footballer and current Eyüpspor manager Arda Turan, after it was revealed that illegal construction had been carried out at the family home in Bayrampaşa.

Inspections conducted by the Bayrampaşa Municipality determined that while the building, consisting of a basement, ground floor, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors, had an occupancy permit, an illegal independent attic section was added to the building in 2020.

According to a report by Atakan Irmak from Sabah, investigations revealed that various parts of the property located on plot 14,25 were subsequently built illegally.

In the Construction Suspension Report issued on January 24, 2020, it was determined that the building, which consists of a basement, ground floor, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors, had an occupancy permit, but an illegal independent attic section was added to the building in 2020.

ILLEGAL CONSTRUCTION DETECTED IN ATTIC

As part of the investigation conducted by the prosecutor's office following a report by the Bayrampaşa Municipality, the municipality's research on the building was placed under review.

At the end of the examinations, it was stated that illegal construction had been carried out in the building registered to Yüksel Turan, the mother of footballer Arda Turan, located in the Bayrampaşa district.

The inspection determined that the dimensions of the attic space in the building had been recently altered and converted into an illegal floor.

MOTHER TURAN FACES UP TO 5 YEARS IN PRISON

At the end of the investigation, the prosecutor's office filed an indictment against Yüksel Turan for the crime of 'Causing Zoning Pollution'. Mother Turan, who faced up to 5 years in prison, appeared before the judge at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance.

During the trial, the court decided to conduct an on-site inspection of the alleged illegal construction. The Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance appointed an expert witness to the case to examine the illegal construction in question.

The report resulting from the examinations of the building was sent to the court. The report stated that the parts subject to the crime were built illegally and without permission, and that the top and sides of the attic terrace had been enclosed, increasing the enclosed gross area.

SENTENCED TO 10 MONTHS IN PRISON

Yüksel Turan, who appeared before the judge at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance in recent days, stated that only simple renovations were made to the structure and that there was no intention of illegal construction.

During the trial process, the court decided to sentence Yüksel Turan to 10 months in prison, stating that the expert witness appointed to the case confirmed in their report that illegal construction had taken place and that it was established that Yüksel Turan had committed the crime of 'Causing Zoning Pollution'.
