AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that a 5 percent additional raise would be granted to SSK and Bağ-Kur pensioners and that the lowest pension would be 10,000 TL.

While millions of pensioners condemned to misery wages were left disappointed, the Palace's daily spending drew attention.

According to a report in Sözcü; CHP Adıyaman MP Abdurrahman Tutdere stated, “The Palace's daily expense is 35 million liras. The lowest pension has become 10,000 liras. The salaries of 3,500 pensioners equal the Palace's one-day expense.”

Pointing out that the salary determined by the AKP for pensioners has remained below the hunger threshold for years, CHP's Tutdere said, “According to the table for the last 5 years, pension salaries remained 7.35 percent below the hunger threshold in 2019, 15.698 percent in 2020, 39 percent in 2021, 41.99 percent in 2022, and 54.49 percent in 2023. Even though we are at the beginning of 2024, pension salaries have remained 54.44 percent below the hunger threshold. Nearly 16 million pensioners have been officially left to face hunger.”

On the other hand, Turkey Pensioners Association Legal Advisor Cafer Tufan Yazıcıoğlu also stated that pensioners, who legally fall under the definition of “poor,” can benefit from the poverty assistance provided by the Ministry of Family and Social Services.
